Physical & Mental Requirements

During your appointment, Dr. Gouws will collect all the necessary information pertaining to your overall physical health, including height, weight, blood pressure, mental status and other key medical facts as needed.

Visual Examination

General visual examination

One of Dr. Gouws Medical Assistants will guide you through a comprehensive Visual Examination in accordance with the standards established by the Civil Aviation Medical Examiners Handbook.  Should further visual examination be required, Dr. Gouws will provide the necessary referrals.

Hearing Examination

A general hearing examination will be conducted.  For those pilots who are seeking Category 1 or 2 certification, a pure tone audiogram will be required.

Urinalysis

basic glucose testing

Routine dip-stick testing of the urine for glucose is required at each aviation medical examination. Microscopic examination is only required where clinically indicated
